First things first, congratulations to the Shawnee Mission North Marching Indians for our 2nd place finish in the Silver Division at Lee’s Summit North marching festival yesterday!  You had a fantastic performance and should be proud of this achievement.
As we celebrate a great showing, I cannot emphasize enough that our Oct. 28th festival at Warrensburg is going to be extremely tough.  We’re competing against the strongest lineup I’ve ever seen.  We need to work like never before to have a shot at finals.  At the very least, we need to view that we control our own destiny…we need to give everything we have over the next 3 weeks.  Next week is a very short rehearsal week, so practice at home as much as possible!  Memory tests could occur any day, and the marching memory test will be given after Warrensburg…I wonder if those test results and our final placement at Warrensburg will have a correlation???

Monday, Oct. 9th- varsity only, early rehearsal (6:45AM) and and Monday night rehearsal (6:30PM).  FYI- this is the only early rehearsal for the entire week!

Tuesday- varsity, it’s an “O” day, so meet at the stadium at 7:40AM if it’s not raining, but there’s a strong chance of rain Tuesday morning.
Wednesday- National day of testing, no rehearsals.
Thursday- HOMECOMING PARADE AND FOOTBALL GAME
All band and drill team students should eat 1st lunch (12:00PM-12:25), then report to the band room for warmup and staging.  Parade begins at 2:00PM.  After parade, buses will take students back to school.  ALL JV and varsity should wear show shirt and black shorts for their parade uniform.
Football game Itinerary:
5:15PM- begin uniform checkout.
6:15- report to JV field in full uniform for attendance and warmup.
6:40- pregame begins, although we will play pregame show after senior recognition of football team and cheerleaders.  FYI- we are NOT playing the entire show before the game, as we’ve done in the past at Homecoming, just our standard pregame show with JV and varsity.
7:00- game begins.
7:45ish- halftime.  We will only play our closer due to homecoming queen crowning.  At conclusion of halftime, report back to band room, checkin uniform.  Varsity begins preparing for our Light Show.
9:30ish- LIGHT SHOW at conclusion of game.
LIGHT SHOW DETAILS FOR VARSITY: Must wear a black or dark shirt and pants or jeans.  YOU NEED TO BRING 2 REGULAR SIZED FLASHLIGHTS WITH FULLY CHARGE BATTERIES, plus any other lighting items you like.  They cannot be really bright, spotlight type items, or it detracts from everyone around you and the entire band.  Band boosters are providing duct tape, but you need to provide everything else.  Please be care using adhesive products on your personal instruments, as it can damage/ruin lacquer our other protective qualities of your instrument.  Remember that all instruments must be cleaned after the performance, as varsity is performing in our marching invitational less that 48 hours later.
Friday, Oct. 13th– no rehearsals or performances.  Enjoy Homecoming!
Saturday, Oct. 14th- SM NORTH MARCHING INVITATIONAL!  Parents, please sign up for a job using the signup link below (same link as communicated last week).  To be completely candid, parents, I’m getting very concerned regarding our parking lot situation.  We haven’t had parents sign up for parking lot duty…which could cause a significant safety concern.  We will have students working the parking lot, but adult supervision is VERY necessary.

TRASH CAN NEEDS FOR THE INVITATIONAL: Parents, please email me if you can bring a large trash can Friday night/Saturday morning that we can use in our parking lots.  With 2,000 visiting marchers, we will need ways to remove refuse during the day.  Also, if you can help us out with a trash can, please make sure you take it with you as you leave.
I will send at least one last email this week regarding FINAL invitational details.  I’ll try to email several details at the same time.
Congrats again for your incredible performance yesterday, and looking forward to another busy and exciting week.  It must be October!
Mr. Reed
